One dies in Petauke road traffic accident, as six others among them a six-year-old nurse serious injuries
A 46-year-old man has died in Petauke district in Eastern Province after his Toyota Noah collided with a Marcopolo Scania bus.
The driver of the Marcopolo belonging to Juldan Motors Limited Kelvin Lutempo has since been detained in police custody as the accident happened when he tried to overtake another vehicle, and in the process collided with the Toyota Noah.
Also involved in the accident is a six-year-old who is suspected to be nursing internal injuries along with five others who were on board the Toyota Noah.
The 50 passengers that were in the Marcopolo have all escaped unhurt.
Zambia Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga says Petauke police recorded a Fatal Road traffic accident involving one death which occurred yesterday at around 09:40 hours near Nyika Motel along Petauke Main road in Petauke district.
“Involved in the accident was a motor vehicle Marcopolo Scania bus registration number ALP 3175 belonging to Juldan Motors Limited which had a damaged right front part. It was driven from North to South with 50 passengers on board escaped unhurt,” he said.
Mr Hamoonga said that the deceased Andre Olokani who drove motor vehicle Toyota Noah registration number ALR 9041 which was extensively damaged sustained a fractured right arm, cut on the face and multiple bruises on the body and later died after admission at Kalindawalo General Hospital.
He was carrying six passengers on board a female juvenile who sustained a cut on the forehead, suspected internal injuries and she was unconscious, Esther Phiri aged 43 who sustained suspected internal injuries and a cut on the face has been referred to Chipata General Hospital,Christopher Tembo aged 24 who sustained suspected internal injuries who too has been referred to Chipata General Hospital,Febby phiri aged 23 who sustained suspected internal injuries, Juvenile aged six who sustained suspected internal injuries and Jennifer phiri aged 30 who sustained suspected fractured left arm and a cut on the face,” he said.
Mr Hamoonga added that the accident happened when the Driver of the Marcopolo Scania bus was overtaking another motor vehicle in the process collided with an oncoming Toyota Noah.
