R.I.P Dandy: Zambia Mourns the Loss of Musical Icon Dandy Crazy

The nation is in mourning following the tragic passing of Wesley Chibambo, fondly known as Dandy Crazy, after succumbing to injuries from a road traffic accident.
The beloved musician, celebrated for his vibrant personality and groundbreaking contributions to Zambia’s music industry, passed away in the early hours of this morning at 01:42, despite efforts by medical professionals to save him.
The accident occurred on New Year’s Eve along the Great North Road, between Kabwe and Kapiri, claiming the lives of four individuals at the scene. Dandy Crazy was critically injured and rushed to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH), where he underwent emergency surgery.
In a heartfelt statement, Nzeba Chanda, Public Relations Officer for UTH Adult Hospital, shared the efforts made to save the artist:
“He underwent an emergency operation later in the day. However, he remained in critical condition despite various treatment interventions by our health staff. He was certified dead at 01:42 hours this morning. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and the public as they mourn this tragic loss.”
Dandy Crazy leaves behind a legacy that transcends music. His iconic hit Don’t Kubeba became a cultural phenomenon and an anthem during Zambia’s 2011 general elections. Born and raised in the Copperbelt Province, he was a trailblazer who used his art to celebrate and preserve Zambian culture, earning him numerous awards and accolades throughout his career.
