A year ago, betting company 1xBet launched Zambia’s Driver of the Month social program. Now, is the right time to review the results of this initiative and share the company’s road safety plans for 2025.
Final of Driver of the Month 2024 program
The Driver of the Month program began in early 2024 in partnership with Safety for People on the Move (SPOM) and with the support of international betting company 1xBet.
Over the past year, the program has selected and awarded Zambia’s 10 best drivers. Each winner received recognition and a valuable prize and was also chosen as a road safety ambassador in the country.
The latest winner of the Driver of the Month program was Elizabeth Manda Chibwe, who shared her feelings during the award ceremony:
“I feel proud, happy, and motivated. This is more than just an award—it’s a recognition of my skills, discipline, and commitment to safe driving. It’s also a reminder to keep striving for excellence and set an example for other drivers.”
Like all previous winners of the contest, Elizabeth Manda Chibwe highlighted the strong connection between responsible betting and safe driving:
“In both cases, discipline, self-control, and thoughtful decisions are needed. An irresponsible driver may experience stress and frustration, which can lead to aggressive behavior on the road, loss of focus, or poor decisions. A balanced mental state helps both in betting and safe driving.”
Finally, Zambia’s best driver shared some important tips for all African drivers:
- Avoid speeding
- Don’t drive after drinking alcohol
- Stay focused and don’t get distracted while driving
- Consider road conditions and drive carefully
In the Driver of the Month contest, individuals with valid licenses and no major traffic violations in the past year, as well as owners of personal or company vehicles, could participate. A responsible driver could apply on their own, or be nominated by passengers or an employer.
After checking the reputation, discipline, and history of traffic violations, a special commission allowed the candidate to proceed to testing, where finalists underwent a traffic rules knowledge check. In the final stage, each contender gave an interview, answering questions about the importance of safe driving, the connection between responsible betting and road behavior, as well as offering advice to other drivers.
After thoroughly analyzing the results of all finalists, the commission selected the best Driver of the Month each month. The winner received a generous cash prize, certificates, and gifts from 1xBet, as well as the honorary title of Zambia Road Safety Ambassador and the opportunity to appear on TV/radio.
Role of 1xBet in development of socially responsible business
Clearly, 1xBet in Zambia supports not only sports and entertainment but also important social initiatives. The Driver of the Month program has become a key step in reducing road accidents in Zambia.
“We aim to make responsible driving prestigious in Zambia. The 10 awarded drivers have become true ambassadors of safety,” said 1xBet representative Kafupi Muwana.

In addition to the Driver of the Month program, 1xBet launched several other important road safety initiatives in 2024. For example, on December 6-7, the Play for Road Safety Football Tournament, supported by 1xBet, took place in Lusaka with a total prize fund of 50,000 ZMW. The tournament featured 16 teams from the transportation sector, police, and other organizations. During the tournament, team players held engaging lectures for fans on traffic rules and road safety.
On December 28, the exciting Spinning Rally festival took place in Lusaka, gathering professional racers and car enthusiasts from all over Zambia. The highlight of the event was the breathtaking spinning stunts performed by specially trained stunt drivers.
“Racing is a place for adrenaline, which shouldn’t be on regular roads. We support such events to channel the energy of car enthusiasts in a safe direction,” said 1xBet representative Kafupi Muwana.
According to official statistics, 2,199 people lost their lives on Zambia’s roads in 2024.
“Zero fatalities is the only acceptable goal. We must work together so that everyone understands: traffic rules are not restrictions, but life-saving measures,” said SPOM representative Chifwesa Kaoma.
“We all need to ask ourselves: how can I save a life today?” Kafupi Muwana pointed out the concerning statistics.
The Driver of the Month 2024 program has concluded, but 1xBet isn’t stopping there. The company’s plans for 2025 include continuing its collaboration with road safety organizations and launching a new online traffic rules quest. Unlike last year’s program, the new quest will be open to everyone, not just active drivers. This means even more Zambians will get to learn the key principles of responsible driving.
“We believe that in 2025, 1xBet will implement even more initiatives to improve road safety in Zambia,” said Kafupi Muwana.
