Swiss man convicted for attempting to illegally export medicines valued at K200,000

THE Lusaka Magistrate’s Court has convicted and fined a Swiss national to pay K100,000 for exporting medicines without export permit.

This is in a matter where the Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) intercepted Daniel Waldvogel, a director for Health Support Zambia, aged 54 years of house number Hofwisiesenstrasse number zip code 8153 R Vemlang, Switzerland and took him to court in Lusaka for the said offence contrary to the Medicines and Allied Substances Act No. 3 of 2013 of the laws of Zambia.

When the matter was brought before magistrate Chrispine Hampungani, Waldvogel pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted and fined K100,000 in default of payment nine months simple imprisonment.

And ZMRA public  relations officer Ludovic Mwape warned that the Authority will tolerate would offenders.

“We wish to issue a stern warning to all those who commit similar offences that we are equal to the task of ensuring that only medicines that are legally exported out of the Country will be allowed to leave the country,” he said.

Mr Mwape said this is to ensure safety, quality and efficacy of medicinal products and allied substances being exported out of the country.

He said failure to adhere to the set standards as regards to the exportation will result in offenders being prosecuted.
